Luxe by Anna Godbersen: a mini review

I found the consistent reminder of the prologue an annoyance. In fact I rather wished I had skipped the prologue. I had a terrible time caring to know more about Elizabeth. I almost gave up on the book a few times in the first chapters. were it not for the enticing reviews I would have quit. Then in chapter 10 I was given a second close-up of Diana. I knew I must read on. There was something about Diana's carefree determination that drew me into the world of 1899. In the end I was delighted with the nips and tucks the story made as we viewed the New York of 1899 from a the young and rich heirs and heiresses. I did have fun the second half of the book and tried to ignore the prologue as I read toward the end. Ultimately I am glad I read to the end. It was well concluded, though maybe a bit uninformative of how the climax was resolved.

I do mean to check out the next in the series. I am hopeful to read more about Diana who I am quite fond of.

3 out of 5 stars.
